How to Listen
Download a book and open it in any of the apps below. You don’t need an account with us, and the file is yours to keep.
Each recording is one M4B file. It holds AAC audio, chapter markers, and cover art. Most audiobook apps can show those chapters and remember your place.
The audio is mono at 24 kHz and between 64 and 70 kbps. At that rate, a twenty-hour novel is a few hundred megabytes instead of several gigabytes.
iPhone and iPad
- Apple Books Already installed. Holds your place across every device signed in to the same account.
- BookPlayer Free and open source. Speed control, silence trimming, and sleep timer.
Android
- Voice Free and open source, with no account and no network access.
- Smart AudioBook Player Chapter list, sleep timer, and per-book playback speed.
macOS
- Apple Books Drag the file onto the app. It picks up where your phone left off.
- VLC Plays the file without importing it anywhere. Reads the chapter table.
Windows
- VLC Opens an M4B directly, with chapters under the Playback menu.
- foobar2000 Light on resources, and remembers a position per file.
Linux
Your own server
- Audiobookshelf Self-hosted library with apps for iOS and Android. Progress follows you between them.
